The Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was a massive contributor throughout the Cold War. It was first established and built on August 13, 1961 and was removed on November 9, 1989. Not only was the Berlin Wall a division between the East and West side of Berlin, it also represented the separation between communism and democracy. On November 9, 1989, the head of the East German communist party announced that the citizens could travel from side to side at their leisure. When the announcement was fist declared, crowds swarmed around the wall and started to tear it down as the officials only tore down a section of the wall. After the wall was taken down, East and West Germany finally united and became a single country of Germany on October 3, 1990. The fall of the Berlin Wall triggered many other countries to end communism and become independent.
